Penultimate Sunday League Round – Sweep at TURC

The penultimate round of the Sunday League saw us focusing on sweeping for the first time . A big thank you to everyone who helped out at the practice session beforehand — your support and advice were much appreciated.

The day got off to a rather soggy start, with torrential rain sending everyone into the café, where we took full advantage of the excellent spread of food while waiting for the weather to improve. Thankfully, the rain eventually eased, everyone headed outside, and the racing got underway.

The Ladies’ crew faced a particularly challenging draw against some very experienced sweep crews at the top end of the league. They acquitted themselves really well, showing some stylish rowing, improving throughout the day and gaining confidence as the racing progressed. Unfortunately, the experience of the opposition showed, and they were unable to take the wins, but there were plenty of positives for our crew to take away.

The Men’s crew also had a tough draw, but produced a strong performance, picking up four wins and beating both of the crews above them in the league — a fantastic result.

Their day wasn’t without drama, having to deal with being rammed in one race, followed by a restart. But nothing was going to stop them! They even deployed the secret weapon: Jonathan’s psychedelic leggings, which I’m sure completely bamboozled the opposition into submission. 🦵🌈

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported us today and a particular thank you to Pam for offering her support and knowledge from the coxing seat.

So, just one round to go! We’re back to sculling for the final round, giving us a clear target to work towards and hopefully finishing the league on a high.

Bring on the final round! 🚣‍♀️🚣‍♂️
