Welfare Officers

We’d like to introduce ourselves as your Club Welfare Officers (CWO) and explain a little about what the role involves.

ELIZABETH

WELFARE OFFICER

STUART

WELFARE OFFICER

Elizabeth has been a member of HRC since 2011 having started rowing at university. Stuart joined HRC through the learn to row course in 2017. Generally we are around the club on a weekend morning and Tues/Thurs evenings in the summer months.

What is the role of the Club Welfare Officer?

In short, the CWOs are the individuals at the club who are responsible for promoting Safeguarding and the welfare of children and adults.

CWOs are there to create safe, inclusive environments; and to respond to concerns and disclosures. While the CWO is a safeguarding focal point, it is the responsibility of all club members, and visitors to uphold British Rowing safeguarding policies and procedures to safeguard children and adults at risk.

Why is Safeguarding important?

The most significant aspect of safeguarding, relevant to our club is that everyone:

  • Takes seriously all suspicions and allegations of poor practice or abuse and responds swiftly and appropriately to them and in accordance with current British Rowing procedures and
  • takes all reasonable steps to protect young people from harm, discrimination and degrading treatment and to respect their rights, wishes and feelings.

Please play your part

All members of Hexham Rowing Club, whether they are a Junior, Senior, Volunteer, Parent or Coach must follow British Rowing’s robust policies that have been put in place for Safeguarding Children and Adults at Risk.
