On Sunday 8 womens and 7 open crews from across the region congregated on Tyne Green for our turn at hosting Sunday League this season. The weather turned out to be kinder than forecast but due to the predicted winds we moved the course upstream which made for a slightly longer course than normal.
Lots of excellent racing led to several close finishes and made good viewing for the spectators. All crews raced well with many of the rowers across the clubs being straight from Learn to Row or Sunday League novices.
Both our crews had never raced together and many of them had just come off of our own Learn to Row and were racing for the first time in Sunday League.
Hexagogo our open crew of Gavin, David, Jose and Tom rowed strongly and were proud to win 3 out 4 races only narrowly losing to Tyne in the last.
Hexcited our ladies crew of Claire, Amy, Anna and Tracy opened the competition being first out on the water and gained strength through their races to win their final one.
Both our crews were buzzing by the end of the day following such impressive rowing.
A special thanks to our volunteers who made it a successful day across catering, baking, landing stages, start and finish Marshalls and coxing.
We are all looking forward to our next races at Tarn on the 2nd August.
