Sunday League at Durham October 2025

On a sunny Sunday a small team from Hexham headed down to Durham for a barbecue…with the small matter of a day’s rowing to get through first!

It was the last one of the year, and Hexham started in fourth place, aiming for a move up to third. Unfortunately, a slightly harsh draw put the team up against the 1st and 2nd placed teams. Ably led by cox Sue, and marshalled by Tink the dog and with team mascot Elena, we got under way.

The first round was against Tyne, who had already clinched the title, mainly due to having Hexham’s Andrew on loan. Hexham did remain in touching distance, but came in 2nd. The second race was a Hexham triumph over a home Durham team. The third race was up against the second-placed Cambois team, and again Hexham came in just behind them, but closing in on what was a very short course. Unfortunately time was heading on, and the fourth round was cancelled, so Hexham finished the year in fourth place.

Everyone has a very enjoyable day to round the year off. Thank you to Sue and Ant for arranging the Hexham crews this year and to Colin for organising the Sunday League Series 2025, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed participating.
