Tyne LDS/SBH 2026

Hexham Masters headed to the Tyne LDS for the second head of the season, following last week’s opening ‘loosener’ at Tees. A lovely calm morning greeted the crews, but with a busy entry and boats packed together off the start, racing against a strong tide was not straightforward. Finding the right line was key, as was being able to get past other crews, or not losing too much time when yielding to faster ones.

The Women’s D quad, racing as a scratch combination, put in a strong row to finish second behind a very fast Durham crew.

The Men’s D quad felt they’d improved on last week and were pushed all the way down the course by Tees. Fortunately for Hexham, the chasing Tees crew hit the wall just before the finish, and the D quad came home second behind an extremely fast Tyne Amateur crew.

The Men’s E quad also had a good race, feeling a clear step forward from how Tees had gone, and the Women’s G quad likewise had a good row, improving on last week. It was a tough morning for the Men’s G double, who unfortunately caught the mud banks along the way.

In the afternoon, the lone SBH entry was the mixed double of Rob and Shor. Racing in the Open category meant no repeat of last week’s medal-winning performance, but it was a good row nonetheless.

Plenty of positives to build on as the head season continues. Well done, Team Hexham!
