November 17th saw three Masters crews making the journey back down to York for the Small Boats Head – unlike 2023 the River Ouse was behaving itself and the sun made a welcome appearance 🙂
We set up camp on the north-side of the city, following a kind invitation from St Peter’s School, and rowed through the city to the start – a journey of 6,500m for one of the crews!
After a chilly wait, racing took place from Fulford Green up to Tower Gardens; 3,000m and a couple of bends to carefully negotiate.
Thankfully all three crews made it back safe & sound and with excellent results;
- The Women’s Band 1 Double of Shor and Elizabeth taking first place and beating their nearest opposition by almost two minutes!
- The Mixed Masters D/E/G Quad comprising Gill, Christine, Rob and John taking first place, a fantastic comeback after their eventful outing back in January.
- Ana and Michael in their Mixed Masters C/E/F Double also taking first place on their first outing as a crew and also the first win for Michael!
So, a fantastic day of racing resulted in a clean-sweep for the Hexham crews – an epic performance, many congratulations to all! Thank you to Michael for towing the trailer.
