Berwick LDS 2024

The Northern Rowing Council’s Long Distance Sculling series for 2024 started on Saturday 28th September with a fabulous day at Berwick upon Tweed. The 2023 series suffered from poor weather so it was fantastic to get to a good start with wonderful calm conditions and the sun shining.

Eight masters ladies and seven masters men represented Hexham RC at the event made up of two ladies quads, one open quad, an open double and an open single.

We rigged the boats on the beautiful Tween Green, before boating on the shores of the Tweed. The crews meandered upstream to the start line, with the opportunity to go into Scotland if on the North side of the river. The start marshalling area was a flurry of conversations by crews from across the region catching up.

As the tide turned, the crews raced back towards Berwick, finishing just before the spectacular viaduct. After putting our boats on the trailer, it was time to head across the river to the lovely Berwick RC boathouse for some delicious food, good company and to hear the results. Results can be found here.

Well done to all the crews who raced, some enjoying their first race experience. Thanks to the race organiser and to Michael for towing the trailer.
