Tyne Scullers Head 2024

Hexham crews were out in force on Saturday, with two full trailers heading down the A69 to Newburn with representation from juniors to Masters crews in all divisions.

The morning division had beautifully flat water, for the ladies masters and open senior single scull event, we had five rowers enjoying the calm conditions but wondering where the stream from the incoming tide was! Shor and Catherine came close second places and super sculling by all.

The wind picked up a little f0r our four scullers in the second division for the masters men. We had Masters A, C, G and I representation, with the tide filling, the course was a little wider. Cheered on by fellow club members, Stuart and James came second in the Mas A/B and C/D categories respectively and George won the Mas H/I category.

It was time for the junior singles in the third division, as the wind picked up even more, we had six rowers representing Hexham. Ethan and Ronan had tough competition in the Op J16 1x (b1) and Op J18 1x respectively. Dan won the Op J17 1x (b1), Esme won the W J17 1x with Emily a close second and Hester enjoyed her first race in a single scull!

The wind picked up again for the final division for the doubles, ten crews represented Hexham; three W J16 2x crews, two Op 2x crews and two Op MasG 2x. Well done to everybody battling through the headwind and the outgoing tide by this point, it was ‘character building’ in places! Notable performances from Kev and Mick (DARC) won the Op MasDEF 2x, Jonty and Ronan came second in their Op 2x, closely followed by Ned and Ben, Sadie and Olive came second in W J16 2x (b1) and there was a good tussle between our MasG doubles. Catherine and Elizabeth came home the Fastest W.2x.

Thank you to Catherine and Julia for towing the trailers, well done to everyone who rowed, and thank you to the organisers for a super event! Full results can be found here: https://www.newcastlerowing.com/tyne-single-scullers-head
