Five members of the club headed up the M6 to the Scottish Spring Regatta, held at the multi-lane venue, Strathclyde Park, Motherwell on the 27th & 28th April 2024.
We had a fabulous time racing crews from across Scotland, and some familiar faces down the 1k Masters course. The water looked perfect for racing on the Friday evening when we arrived…
On the Saturday, the WMasB4+ were racing first against two Aberdeen crews, the first regatta for this crew saw them lead from the front and finish that way. Between events, there was plenty of time to browse the shopping stalls (training AIOs purchased!) and have a cup of tea in the large catering tent. Up next were doubles – the W.MasB2x combination had a good start and pulled away from the others with their higher rate. The WMasC2x crew had some steering issues but with determination finished a strong third.
Sunday morning saw three singles out, Shor blitzed the WMasA/B1.x leading from the front for the first 750m and unfortunately being pipped at the post to a well deserved silver medal. Elizabeth and Catherine came in third in their races. Up next was the WMasB4x- which had a strong start and maintained the speed to the end. Lastly, we combined forces with our friends at Durham ARC in a composite WMasB8+, we were the younger of the B-D category and it was a fast and furious race to the finish line but we could have done with a few more metres to put our bowball in front. A super weekend, thanks to Catherine for towing!
