The last head race of the year took place on Saturday 29th November at Newburn. The course was updated a little from previous years to start inline with the Sea Cadents before Scotswood bridge and finish before the Newcastle uni steps at Newburn. There were record entries to this popular event, attracting crews from Aberdeen to Abingdon school.
Division one conditions were lovely – cool but calm with the race starting at high tide so there was plenty of water to navigate the shortest line up the course.
Hexham RC had a ladies masters C quad out and a composite boys J18 quad with our neighbours QEHS. There were Hexham members representing other clubs too in the open masters Eights (Kev & Stu for Tyne RC) and ladies masters E quad (Ana for TURC) .

The second division had less water and a dark threatening cloud overhead… all competitors took their waterproofs ready for the downpour! More Hexham crews were racing in this division with three WJ18 quads(!), a masters men’s C quad and two masters men joining TURC quads. The ladies quad from the morning joined Cambois rowers in an eight.
