Saturday (20th Jan) saw Hexham crews travel to Newburn to compete at TURC New Years Head.
The conditions in division one were challenging, with some huge waves around ‘scrap-yard’ corner. Marshalling at the start proved tricky too, with a strong wind southerly wind. Three Hexham crews raced, with our W J18 4x- girls coming home with a win.
The second division was a little calmer and our two masters crews who were able to enjoy some better racing conditions, with a win for some of our members in a composite Op MasE/F 8+. James and Michael in the Op MasD 2x were somewhat apprehensive after hearing the reports from the division one, but in the end the waves had subsided and following a pep talk from Pam they had a great race, finishing in the top half of the field and second only to an experienced Tees crew.
