A number of Masters crews headed down the A1 for Nottingham Masters Regatta on Sunday 11th May. It was a warm and sunny day with the 6 lane course looking good.
First up were the singles – first race of the day Stuart flew down the 1km course in the A.1x event, coming second to a higher rating athlete. Next up were Elizabeth and Catherine in the WB1x and WD1x respectively, building on their race experience from Strathclyde earlier in the season.
Singles back on the trailer, it was then time for doubles. Kevin and Mick (Durham) were first off in the E.2x, their 5 lane race turned into a two horse race with Hexham/Durham and Medway Towns out in front. At 500m Medway were about a length ahead but Kev and Mick clawed them back and then rowed through then in the last 250m to win by 5 seconds. Well done!
Second double down the course was Ben and Anthony in the F.2x, facing some fast competition, they were pleased with their race which was improved from their Strathclyde outing in April. It was then Catherine and Elizabeth’s time for a spin down the course in the WB.2x, the last minute crew combo had warmed up nicely in the singles and found a lovely rhythm to keep them ahead of the competition and were thrilled to come home in front and get a lovely medal with a story behind the tree.
Doubles back on the trailer, it was now time for quads. Kev and Mick joined Craig and Brian from Tyne in the E.4x to face some tough competition. Suzanne joined Catherine and Elizabeth with super-sub Sam from Lakeland for the W.C4x- who were leading for much of the course but Warwick took it up at the red buoys and we couldn’t respond, coming in second. It was a quick turn around for Suzanne and Catherine who swapped seats in the quad and were joined by Ben and Anthony for a Mxd.E4x-, facing very fierce competition had a super row.
Thanks to Catherine for towing, especially after four races!
