And that’s a wrap! The 2024 racing season came to a close on Saturday 30th November with a surprisingly mild Rutherford Head (those who raced at the 2023 event will remember having very cold fingers!) but this year we were welcomed by a beautiful sunrise…
In division one, we had six crews with Hexham representation, a girls J18 quad, a girls J16 quad both in band 1. Two men’s Masters quads in Masters D and H and Hexham members in composite crews in a Op MasE 4x- and W MasC 8+.
It was fast conditions on the 4.5km course, as the tide turned, the crews raced from just after Scotswood Bridge to just after Newburn Bridge. All crews had good races with a win for the W J18 4x- crew and both composites.
After some sunbathing on the Tyne RC balcony, the division two crews took to the water ready for a 13:45 start. This division we had a Masters ladies quad out and Dan joined members from Lambton and Cambois RC to form a J18 quad. The water was a little heavier for this division, but the weather conditions remained kind and the crews had good races.
