Hexham Rowing Club juniors would enjoy an unforgettable few days at the National Schools’ Regatta earlier this month.
On the 26th of July, 8 of our J15/16 juniors attended National Schools Regatta, arguably the biggest junior school’s regatta there is! They all put a lot of hard work and dedication
alongside their GCSE exams, to prepare and achieve such amazing results.
Firstly, they all rowed a 1900m time trial to see where they placed and what final they would race in later.
Cassie, Isabel, Esme and Emma competed in the WJ16 Coxless Quad, they rowed a incredible fast time trial, placing them 2nd by only 0.86 seconds! This placed
them in the A Final, where they competed hard in the bad weather conditions, which they managed expertly and kept their position to gain a 2nd place silver medal. What an
achievement and they improvement from their 3rd place bronze medal last year.
Furthermore, we had two J16 Double Sculls, which consisted of Harry and Jacob in one and Joe and Ethan in the other. Both rowed very well in
their time trials to place 5th for Harry and Jacob, which put them into the A Final and 12th for Joe and Ethan, which placed them into the B Final. Both doubles raced in very hard windy
and wavy conditions, but they didn’t stop pushing. Harry and Jacob placed 8th in their A Final and Joe and Ethan placed 4th in their B Final.
It was a fabulous days racing for the juniors, they showed how good they are competing with the best there is. They go away proud, with so many positives.
