Henley Women's Regatta to introduce new categories for 2009
More crews than ever before will be able to compete at this summer's Henley Women's Regatta after it was announced that new categories will be introduced to the racing schedule.
Thames Valley Trial Head 25th January at Dorney Lake
Entries can now be made for the event via the Marlow Regatta website
Coastal boat classes are included again this year.
Remember the FISA Coastal World Championships will be held for the first time on the UK mainland this year, in Plymouth on 23-25th October.
ARA Coach of the Year Awards 2008
The winners of the ARA Coach of the Year Awards 2008 have been announced. These annual awards are an opportunity for the rowing community to recognise and celebrate the tremendous contribution of our coaches (paid and unpaid) to the success of our sport. The awards will be presented at the National Coaching Conference 24th to 25th January by ARA Deputy Chairman Gary Harris.
The 2008 award winners are:

Water Safety
Water Safety Audits
The Club Water Safety Audit is a recognised part of each club's affiliation and as such it must be completed and submitted no later than Wednesday 31st December 2008.
Although the audit is intended to help clubs develop their safety systems, it is important that it is submitted on time as undue delay can result in suspension from racing.

Congratulations on the safe arrival of your first grandson, Magnus Frederick. All our best wishes!
Kate Wilkinson rubs shoulders with Matt Wells
Kate was nominated by The Hexham Courant for Sportswoman of the year after beating breast cancer and winning her first race at Chester-le- street (Vet women's Quad 2008) Kate didn't win the category but was given a certificate and handshake by Bronze olympic rower, Matt Wells to very loud cheers from her supporters in the crowd! Well done Kate, well deserved, we are all very proud of you!
You also inspired Michael Pennington one of our junior members to row for Breast Cancer. He and his dad, Andrew, rowed for 4 hours and managed to cover 15 miles to raise money for this charity. A big Well done to Michael (and Andrew of course!)

Circuit Fun Its still on over Christmas!!
Tuesday nights at The Wentworth Leisure Centre at 6.30pm. The circuit is designed to use all the muscles used in rowing (and some more!), gets the heart rate up and also includes abdominal and core strength. All levels of fitness catered for!! Hope to see you there.....
Using the sliders
Bob (our community coach) is running a session on Thursday nights at Haydon Bridge High School, especially useful for crew training. Please contact Bob Manning for more information.
